What's new......

I've been busy trying to find something new to sell :) Well, I found it!

Curlz font

These hats are all the rage this year for the beach! Cute, floppy, personalized, fashionable, but most importantly, will help keep those damaging UV rays off of your face! I've loved getting a great tan each summer, but now that I'm getting older, I've noticed the damage those rays can do over time. I'm making one of these cuties for me this summer!

These are also great Derby hats! With the Kentucky Derby coming up next week, then the Preakness and Belmont Steaks (you know you need one for all of those Derby Parties!!!!) you'll be the hit and envy of the event!!

Hmmmm, don't need one for a Derby party? How about to garden in, or a hat to match your game day outfit for your favorite college football team? These would be super cute with a vintage scarf wrapped around it as well.

For now, they come in white, tan, brown, navy and hot pink. Each of these colors are only $20 with your choice of font for the 3 letter monogram. Black is available too, but for $25. Each will ship Priority Mail for $8.00. Please go to my Southern Traditions2 store to order yours! Or, you can just purchase one through here!

Quilted Table Runner ~ Tablescape project #2

Too much! I have WAAAAYYY tooooo much fabric! It's from my days of making clothes for my daughter when she was little, and trying to sell some in one of those fancy-shmancy group boutiques on Ebay! Now I have way too much and need to find ways to use ( repurpose, get-rid-of, whatever term you want to use!) it up!

My last post before Spring Break was I had a theme in mind for my kitchen table. Think CITRUS!!! I love the bright, cheery colors and decided to use 3..... lime green, yellow and orange. Of course, WHITE has got to be in the mix too! I've never had a table runner for my dining/kitchen table, so I figured I needed to make one. I've had these fabrics around for quite some time! Atleast 8 years, if not more. Lime/white stripe and polka dot, yellow stripe and polka dot, orange polka dot and an orange blender....... My whole purpose in making this is to use up what I have and absolutely NOT buy any more fabric to finish this project! (OK, now that I've said that, I need to find something to put on the back of the runner......really want to put white on the back, but I don't have enough, so off to my 8-or-so tubs of fabric to find something! LOL!)

All I did was cut the 6 different fabrics into 6" squares. I only used 30 of the 36 squares that I cut. It took me a while to figure out how to lay them out, but finally got a good pattern. I used a 1/2" seam allowance when sewing them together. (I sewed one long strip of 15, ironed, then sewed the other strip of 15, ironed, then sewed the two long strips together). Here's how it turned out:

Fun and festive! Bright and cheery! Here's the vase that I made a couple of weeks ago that will go with my citrus tablescape:

{LOVE THAT WASHI TAPE!!!!}

Hancock has some canvas on sale this month, so I'm going to go see what they have and how I could paint some pretty placemats! Hey, I didn't say I wouldn't spend $$ on anything else, that was just my goal for the table runner! Hee Hee!

Y'all be sure to take a look around my blog..... I have other great DIY craft ideas, recipes, and you never know when I'll have a giveaway too!

Washi tape painted vase.......

I've got this idea in mind........

Cool citrus colors for my tablescape......orange, lime green and yellow. Oh, and of course, crisp white :)

I'm still mulling things over in my head and think I know where I'm going with this! LOL! I saw this little fluted fat vase today while looking under my kitchen sink and figured it would look super cute spray painted white. So, that's what I did!

Yep, 3 little things to make this vase super cute and citrus-y!

Just a little hint, make sure you get the good Krylon spray paint if you're going to paint on glass..... Ooopsie! While I managed to get the washi tape on pretty straight, when I tried to remove it a little, the paint came up. Oh well, guess this washi tape will stay on for a while...heehee!

I've already got a killer yellow and white table cloth that I bought at Target last year for $6.00! We'll have to see how this all comes together! Look for a reveal in about 2 weeks......gotta play this week since the kids are on Spring Break!

Vintage Frame Redo.........

A couple of weeks ago, I shared with you the vintage frames I got for .50 each at an Estate sale. Just wanted to share a quick update on what I did with a couple of them ;)

This is one of the two wooden frames that I bought. I decided to whitewash them real quick for a completely different look.

Before:

After:

And I used this one to frame a vintage needlework that my Mother In Law gave us for Christmas. She did this back in the 70's when this was all the craze. {I remember my Mom getting one of these kits and working on it for hours and hours!} I just love all of the flowers! Little did I know that this frame would fit it perfectly!

Like shoes and purses, a girl can NEVER have too many frames! LOL! I'm hoping to score some more at another Estate Sale this weekend!

Southern Smothered Quail..... Yum!!!

We love Quail around this house! If it were up to hubs, we’d have a mess of it in the freezer from hunting season, but unfortunately we can’t seem to find a really good hunting spot, YET! There’s one out there somewhere! So, we cheat a little……… we are able to get a box of 36 quail at a local grocery store. Regular price is $34.99, but we wait until it goes on sale for $19.99, so we stock up.

So for years I’ve been doing the regular fried quail. Very good, but nothing that makes your tounge jump up and slap the roof of your mouth! Plus, it seems whenever I fry something, I don’t really like eating it, probably because I’ve got that “grease” feeling all over my clothes, hair, etc……. Anyway, I was looking for a quail recipe in an amazing recipe book that hubs and the kids bought me for my birthday one year, and I think I’ve found THE recipe! I’ve made it twice in the last month, and it’s definitely a keeper, and a FAVORITE! It might take a little time, but trust me, it’s worth the effort!

You will need:
12 wash and cleaned quail
1 ½ cups flour
1 tbsp salt
¾ tsp pepper
1 stick plus 2 tbsp butter (yes, please use butter!)
4 cups chicken broth or 4 cubes of chicken bullion

Clean and dry the quail.

Combine the flour, salt and pepper

Dredge the quail in the flour mixture

Melt the butter in a skillet

Brown the quail in the butter, about 3-4 minutes on each side

Place the quail in a 13x9 pan…… Get ready to make the gravy!

Keep that LUCIOUS butter with quail drippin’s! Add 6 tablespoons of flour to the butter and wisk. Add a little salt and pepper and make the roux (stir constantly until it’s a pretty light brown color). Then add the chicken stock (or if you’re using the bullion, microwave the 2 cups of water, plus 4 cubes until dissolved, then add enough ice to make a total of 4 cups, the liquid needs to be cool to thicken when you put into the roux). Stir on high heat for about 2 minutes, then pour over the quail.

Cover with tin foil and bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour.

This is what our plate looked like.

We had rice and cornbread stuffing as our sides that night. I’m seriously telling you, this gravy is the best I’ve ever tasted! Such a smooth, buttery flavor…..that’s why I wouldn’t suggest using margarine this time LOL!

It does take just a little while to get the recipe started, but then the oven does the work for the last hour (about 30 minutes prep time). I really hope you enjoy making, and, of course, eating, this recipe!!!!

I’m thrilled that you’ve taken time to stop by and see my tutorial! Please be sure to leave a comment! I read each one and would love to hop on over to your blog too! I'm sharing this decorating idea with the following link-up parties:
