As I was walking a couple of weeks ago, I spotted several wood blocks that someone had put in their trash pile (this house is doing a lot of reno….so hopefully I’ll be able to pick up some more!). Can you say FREE?!?!?! I have seen several of these painted blocks on Pinterest with words and sayings and already had an idea of what I wanted to do with them.

I got them out today to do my “thang” with ‘em. I’ve planned on doing my Easter pianoscape in a natural, neutral color scheme this year, so I’m figuring, white, beige, brown, wood, etc…….. So here’s what I did.

Here are the FREE blocks. I’m so glad they weren’t all the same size, makes them more interesting!

I bought a package of sponges at the Dollar Tree the other day. They come 4 to a package and they make great paint daubers! I just cut one of them thirds and that was plenty big enough.
I didn’t have a full tube of white paint, so I thought, let’s do a white-wash look. I put as much of the white paint I could get into a bowl and added water, stirred, and this is how it looked.
As with my Chevron Easter Egg Burlee door hanger , I printed out some lettering on my computer, then put tape over the lettering before I cut it out (to make it more sturdy for the stencil), then stenciled the saying out on the blocks.

And this is what it looks like, FINI! I did do a couple of streaks of the brown paint on the top and sides of the blocks to give it more depth.
I saw a blurb on there the other day for a home-made doggie shampoo that claimed to kill fleas on the spot (yeah, no pun intended!LOL!). I’ve really been impressed with some of the home remedies that I’ve found, I figured, why not give this a try?

Leroy, our German Shorthaired Pointer, has had fleas this year. I have NEVER seen a flea on him until this summer (I guess it’s because we had such a mild winter this year, yes, even for the deep south!). He’s been scratching, biting at those little suckers and seems as though the flea drops that I put on him haven’t worked as well this year. Probably ‘cause we’ve been getting so much rain, ‘specially from Isaac, he’s been a drenched dog!

When I read the ingredients, I knew I’d have to alteast give this a shot, as I want to make him as comfy as possible. When I read the two reviews, they said it killed the fleas immediately, but I was a little skeptical, but gave it a try anyway!

Ingredients:

½ cup Dawn
½ cup vinegar
Water to rinse

That’s it! Combine the Dawn and vinegar in a bottle, then generously apply to your wet mutt. I rubbed it in, starting on his head and worked my way down to the tail-end……and SERIOUSLY!!!!!! Those ‘lil nasties just fell off and died! I was absolutely amazed! I guess the only time you need to keep it on is how ever long it takes you to scrub-a-dub the whole pooch, then gently rinse ALL of the soap off of him. It was really easy for me to see the fleas dead, since Leroy is a short-haired dog, but I’m tellin’ ya, this stuff works! By the time I got down to his tail….there were about 15 dead fleas on it~!

Here’s some pictures of the HAPPY HAPPY flea-free dog!

I know I've posted pictures of butterflies in my zinnia garden before, but I also wanted to share with you some of my favorite scriptures. Maybe you're going through a time when you need reassurance that everything's going to be ok. Remember, God loves you, yes, YOU!

It's amazing what can inspire you. I saw the cutest package of paper napkins at the dollar store about a month ago. Ms. M is getting a total reno of her room (hmmm, do you still call it a reno when you're not knocking down walls and just painting and decorating??? What do you think?) Anywho, when I saw the napkins, I knew I needed to get them, but still wasn't sure what I was going to do with them (yep, I have waaayyyy tooooooo much of that stuff in the house, you know, for future projects!) Well, this time it didn't take me long to know what I was going to do!

Can you say WREATH TIME? All I needed for this project was a pool noodle, scissors, package of napkins and tape. Yep, only 4 <strike>ingredients</strike> items! {thought I was cooking for a moment!} {Oh, and I did have a rotary cutter, mat and the ruler thingy, but you really don't need them, as long as you have scissors you're good to go!}

The napkins measurements were 13" x 15 3/4". All I did was unfold them from the package, and cut 4" strips (of course, the last one was only 3 3/4"). Then unfolded the strips and cut on the folded line of each one. I had a ton of these when I was done cutting all of them! (No, I'm not gonna do the math right now, too tired, {{{{YAWN}}}). I used every one of the little squares to fill up the pool noodle.

Once I had them all cut, I took the end of my scissors and started making slits in the noodle. I gently pushed the center of the napkin into the hole, and repeated the process until the whole thing was covered ;) Seriously, how easy can it be? Time consuming.....um, maybe just a little, but it will go by fast when you're sitting on the couch watching TV with the Hubs! I guess you could put a little glue on the napkin before you poked it in, but I decided not too.

Right now I decided to put the personalized glass ornament hanging from the top of the wreath for a decoration, but might change it out later. This is just another element that we've added to Ms. M's more 'grown-up' room.

We have been busy revamping Ms. M's room! We have already painted it a beautiful gray color, added some really cute wall decorations, and have re-done her dresser! She's going for an elegant but still-girly french motif, with a pop of HOT PINK! Yeppers, that's right, HOT PINK! :)

Here's a quick and SUPER EASY PEASY bolster pillow tutorial for ya. I used what I had left of some cotton duck material that I purchased at Hobby Lobby about 2 years ago. The length was 38", but I'm sure when I purchased it it was longer, but it still made for a really nice-sized bolster for her bed! I also had a pillow that we no longer used, so I cut off the cover and used it for the stuffing! Reuse, reduce, recycle! Oh, and can you say FRUGAL?????LOL!

I love being able to use what I already have at home! It's a challenge for me, because if you're like me, I LOVE LOVE LOVE to go out and purchase new "stuff!". This time I was able to use what I had and I'm pleased with the results. Ms. M was thrilled with her pillow, I guess it was the squeal that gave it away!

WHEW! Yep, took me long enough (now that schools fixin' to start and fall's just right around the corner), but better late than never's what I say!

As always, I wanted to do a pretty pianoscape that didn't break the bank. It's soft, simple and pretty. I love the pops of turquoise and yellow. But ya gotta love the soft tans/whites too! YUM!

I reused my favorite twin frames (got them for a steal for .50 each at an estate sale and whitewashed them).

Used my Silhouette to create the light house and anchor with "summertime" underneath.

I love how fun these are and the endless possibilities I have now! WOW, these would be super great Christmas presents! I can do these in any color combination (just make sure that you have either red or blue in it, as that's the only two colors of serving trays I can get right now! LOL!). Great for High School football parties too!

Thanks so much for stopping by! If you'd like to see how much these are, please feel free to stop by my ETSY STORE .

We’ve got a couple of projects going this summer! It’s been fun and we’re trying to get these things done by the time the kiddos go back to school. (Hopefully not just wishful thinking, LOL!)

We recently painted Ms. M’s room a pretty grey color (post coming soon with pics) and she decided to do a more “grown-up” look. We looked through different images online, and she really liked the fleur de lis! She also loves the damask look as well. I told her she was going for a French-country kind of feel for her room (of course, she looked at me kinda puzzled, but I’ve seen that look before) {Well, maybe she was just looking at me saying “Gees Mom, you’re crazy”, but I’d like to think the former, rather than the later!}

Anywho, she had a dresser that we had painted white about a year ago, and, of course, it’s gotten chipped a little, but that “chipped” look is so in right now (which is good, ‘cause I didn’t feel like repainting it anyway). We gave it a facelift with some of the leftover paint on the front of the drawers, then applied some fleur de lis in white vinyl (oh yeah baby, I LURVE my Silhouette!). This was my first project with vinyl, and I can see that I’ll be putting vinyl on anything that will stay still long enough **snicker**. Love, love, love!!!!! This is how it came out……..

We bought this dresser for $40.00, so with some leftover white paint and paint from her room re-do, we don't have too much $$$ in this and it's a great addition to her room! I love frugal decorating :)
AND, we’re still not done! Ms. M. came up with a cute idea for the other two drawers, and we’ll let you see that one tomorrow! (I know, I’m such a teaser!)

I’m looking for that one piece, you know, the one thing that will just pull everything together, but I haven’t found it yet! LOL!

Here are a couple of the elements I have so far

Pretty sea blue glass votives: got these at Michaels for 60% off of the $1.99 price tag. Not too bad for .80 each and I know I’ll be able to reuse them for something else (probably 4th of July and January for a snowflake theme).

I also got a bag of shells at Michaels, in their $2.00 section, with a bunch of pretty ones! And a couple of pieces of drift wood! I didn’t want a huge bag of them, so this worked out perfectly!

I bought these two pillar candles at Dollar Tree (the best thing is, you can reuse these candles for ever, so it's just the initial $2.00 expense!). I had some of the awesome fabric leftover from my Photo Pillow project and my Beach insprired wreath to wrap around the candles. I hot glued the piece on (just where the fabric overlaps each other, that way I can take these off to reuse the candle), then attached the starfish. Easy-peasy decorating! These starfish were only .40 each, so basically under a $1.00 for this project (of course, if you need to go out and purchase the candles it will be a $3.00 project! LOL!).

It's Beach time!! Yep, you can say I'm a little behind on my summer decor, but ya know, down here in the deep south, summer is here for a while!

As always, I thought about this theme and color combo waaaayyyyyy back in February, but I'm just now getting to it (better late than never!) And, I have a new TOY that is making this a little bit more fun to put together!

Yep, that's right my friends, a brand-spankin' new Silhouette CAMEO! My mom and dad surprised me with it last weekend, and me and Ms. M. have had a great time making its aquaintance. There is so much I can do with this machine, I just haven't had a chance to sit and play with it like I'd like to. It helps a little today as I have every single one of my orders done and shipped!

I've seen all of those pretty yarn-wrapped wreaths and just had to make one myself! I used a $1.00 pool noodle for the base, I had a big ball of white yarn already, and bought 1/4 yard of both turquoise and yellow felt for the felt flowers (and I have plenty of felt left over for another project!). I purchased a box of 3 star fish at Michaels in the $$$$ section ($2.00, with a 40% coupon). I had the muslin-like fabric from my photo pillow project for the banner, so I was ready to go.

Yep, I used my new toy to make the cute letters on the banner(the font is called Strawberry limeade, available for free at fontspace!) I made them with the self adhesive cardstock paper.

My Mom and Dad recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. I really wanted to come up with something that would take them back to that day that they both said "I do".

I just happened to have one of their wedding pictures in my picture stash, so all I had to do was scan it into my computer. Then I grabbed one of the sheets of Iron-on Print n Press transfer sheets (from Hobby Lobby, only $5.99, minus the 40% coupon of course!) and printed out their picture.

Then I measured out 2 pieces of 14" x 14" fabric (the kind I chose was the kind of fabric that they use to recreate civil war type of costumes, I can't remember what it's called, but I love it!). Followed the directions from the Print n Press on how to iron on the photo, then used my Babylock to monogram the pillow with their name and when they were established! :) I know y'all know how to make a pillow, so I won't go into that for ya!

Needless to say, I think it was a big hit! This color matches their bedroom perfectly! Would have been great to do a black and white or sepia toned picture too!

These plates were so much fun, and super-duper easy to make too! I bought 2 ceramic plates at Dollar Tree the other day....thought this would be a fun weekend craft for Ms. M. and I to try out. I've seen these on Pinterest before (I know, who hasn't, right?) and was a little skeptical on how they'd turn out (the markers not washing off). Well, I was delightfully surprised!

As you can see, Ms. M. is at the table with all of our supplies: plates, sharpie markers (in a ton of colors!), tape for our home-made stencils, and that's it! (Oh my, oh my, this would be so much easier with a Silhouette! LOL!....Santa, can you hear me???????)

All we did was figure out ahead of time what we wanted to do. Just beware, once you've marked on the plate, you can't erase it, so we were pretty careful :)

I wanted to do a monogrammed initial plate for my soon-to-be initial wall in our bedroom. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

This is a great idea to do with the kids, especially when it's 98 outside, with a heat index of 110! It didn't take us long to make them. After you get done with your art, place in a 150 degree oven for 30 minutes and they're done!

Great idea for a grandparent would be to outline the kids hands on a plate, have them color it and date it! I love the monogram plates too....very frugal idea for a dinner party and will only cost you $1.00 per plate!

I can’t thank y’all enough for stopping by and taking a peek into my little craft world! Please be sure to leave a comment, I love and read each one!!!

I know, I know. These cute little Ball jar soap dispensers have been all over the ‘net, ‘specially my favorite, Pinterest! (By the way, come on by and follow me HERE .) But I just figured that on the off-chance of someone not finding the directions, you could use mine!

The way I did mine came out to $1.00! Yep, just one smack-a-roo. Thrifty and frugal, gotta love it! I already had the jar (given to me), so all I needed was the hand soap from my local Dollar Tree.

It was a cute dispenser anyway!

Here’s a quick list of what you’ll need:

1 Ball jar, any size
1 container of hand soap (be sure it also has the pump)
6000 glue, pliers, either a drill with large bit, or just a large nail and hammer

For the lid, all I did was start a hole in the center. I worked my pliers, pulling back the tin until I had a hole big enough that would accommodate the pump. (This part was easy, as the tin is not especially thick.)

As soon as you know it fits, take 6000 glue and glue the cap around the pump to the lid. I put it between two blocks to let it dry overnight.

Just be sure that the hose just touches the bottom of your jar (I had to cut mine a little to make it shorter). Pour in the soap, then attach the lid and jar ring. There you have it! So kitchey-cute, great for presents with jute twine or initials done in vinyl!

I can see the fingerprints of god
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of god
And I know its true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of god
So look around you and see where YOU can see God's fingerprints. Is it in nature? Kids? Animals? Where do you see them?

I was in the back yard pulling up mushrooms last week (it's amazing how these things will sprout up over night!) and just happened to turn one over. WOW! How intricate! I was awed at how each flange on the mushroom was made and spaced apart......only our God could create something so pretty! Mushrooms pretty? Why yes! I'm prone to see the beauty in God's creations in just about everything, but never thought about mushrooms......What about you?

I mean, it doesn't go in EVERYTHING, but enough that I can use up a bottle of it in about 2-3 months.
Little did I know about 2 weeks ago that I had run out.....oh boy! What was a girl to do? Necessity is the master of invention! Yep, I looked at the spices I had, looked at the contents of the spices on the EMPTY seasoned salt bottle, and made my own!

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeazy! Now I NEVER need to go out and purchase a bottle of seasoned salt again....(now to just make sure that I don't run out of the other spices I need to make it **snicker**). Here's what you'll need to make your very own:

1 TBSP salt

1/2 tsp of pepper and lemon pepper seasoning

1 tsp of garlic powder, onion powder and paprika

This is a great all-around salt (and NO added MSG like from the store bought brands!). To make is a little spicy-er, why not add 1/2 tsp of pepper flakes or ground red pepper?

I've got a roast in the slow-cooker right now. I sprinkled some of this on the roast (all sides), then added carrots and potatoes and sprinkled some on top of those. This is probably my family's favorite slow-cooker recipe. Usually they don't eat carrots, but they LOVE them from this recipe. I guess it's the mixture of them being slow cooked with the meat and the seasoned salt! YUMMO!!!! Also great on oven baked potatoes, french fries and squash. Perfect to put in flower to dredge for country fried steak, beef tips and rice. The possiblities are endless!

Why not make up a double or triple batch, and give to some newly weds? Put in one of those glass containers that has the spoon attached to it? Add a cute card attached with baker's twine or jute rope? Like this:

I love decorator pillows! They always make a space look soft, comfy, cozy, inviting. I would have them all over the house, but I have one major problem….. KIDS! They both have cool décor pillows of their own, but I normally find them stuffed under the bed, which, of course, aggravates me to no end! I know if I had a beautiful assortment of pillow for the couches, they’d end up on the floor, but I’m bound and determined to start acquiring some and see how it goes….. you know, they’re 11 and 13, so they can learn to pick them up, right? RIGHT???

While Hubs and I were out one glorious weekend (yep, no kiddos!) we drove over to Thomasville, GA and perused one of our favorite shops over there. They’ve got the COOLEST hunting ‘stuff’, along with the hunting décor items too. I fell in LURVE with a gorgeous Aubusson pillow with a covey of quail on it. Oh, my! It was BEAUTIFUL! Then I saw the price tag…… $80.00! Seriously, not too bad for an aubusson, but WAAAYYYYY to much for my frugal brain to fathom! Funny thing was, when Hubs saw it, he really liked it too (the price tag, not so much). Needless to say the craft wheel in my brain started churning, thinking this could be a really cool Father’s Day present.

This whole project only took about 2 hours, max. What you’ll need is:

1 sheet of Print n’ Press Iron-On ink jet Transfer paper
14” x 14” pillow form
1 piece of 15 ½” x 15 ½” fabric
2 pieces of 15 ½ x 10” fabric
2 yds trim for the pillow (optional)
Image that you want to print (be sure to reverse the image before you print it)

Scissors, matching thread

Print out your image to the transfer paper, then cut around the image

I had to use a wooden board, pillow case and iron on no steam to ensure that the image would take to the fabric (just follow the manufacturers instructions). I used a beautiful shade of gray linen for this pillow. Love that it only took less that ½ yard of it, and that the linen was on sale 50% off!

Pin the trim to the 15 ½ piece of fabric, with it facing the inside of the pillow and “tail” of the trim on the edge of the fabric. At this point I sewed around this piece of fabric, about 1/8” in, to secure the trim.

To make the pocket in the back, I folded up one side of the 15 ½ x 10” piece of fabric to ½ inch, then ½ inch again, ironing as I went, then sewed a straight line. Do that with the second piece too.

Attach the top part of the back piece, sew. Repeat with the bottom half. There’s your pocket! Turn inside out and stuff with the pillow form. Whew, you’re done! LOL!

See, wasn’t so bad was it? I have to say, Hubs really like his pillow today when he opened it up for Father’s Day. I know he was thinking to himself yesterday, “What in the world can she be making for me that I’d like?” We were both pleasantly surprised! We have a quail throw blanket that we use all of them time, and I didn’t realize it when I picked the colors for the pillow, but it matches perfectly!

This project only cost 1/10 of the original pillow I fell in love with (I did happen to have a pillow form at home, so didn't have to purchase one). Talk about frugal decorating..... YEA!

My next pillow project is for my Mom and Dad’s anniversary (which is actually tomorrow, so, yeah, it’s gonna be a little late). Thinking about a photo pillow… now just gotta find the right picture!

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you taking time to visit me and my lil’ ol’ blog! I love, love, LOVE comments and read each one. I love blog hopping too, so I’d love to come and see what you’ve been up to! God Bless!

Hmmm, I see a trend here…… My last post was about either Free or close-to-free items I bought at a store……. This one is about free flowers…… Frugality at its best!

Last year I bought a small envelope of Zinnia’s from Walmart. I’ve never tried to grow them before, but let me tell you, these are probably the EASIEST-PEASIEST flowers that have ever been GROWED before (I love saying GROWED, Tammy says it in “Tammy and the Batchelor”, one of my fav movies of all time!) Anywho. They germinated in about 4 days, and the only thing they require is sunlight and water. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! They grow super fast and are so beautiful, and boy do they make tons of seeds! That’s really why I call them FREE this year! All I did last year was dead-head the flowers, put them in a ziploc bag, let them dry and plant the seeds this year. So basically FREE flowers! I still have one other baggie of seeds that I didn’t plant this year, so after this crop, I should have enough next year to do about a gazillion acres (yes, slight exaggeration, but you get the point LOL!). These are actually the little Zinnias. I need to get some of the big-honkin’ ones for next year!

Just remember, you could have a whole FREE garden. Neighbor’s are usually great for flower clippings or seed sharing. Cozy on up to them and start a seed-swap, the possibilities are endless! I’ve also replanted some Lantana that grows in my back yard. They didn’t grow at all last year, but they sure are this year. I guess after they’ve been transplanted it takes a year for them to get comfy in their new spot. I should have some tiny guests visiting this summer (butterflies LOVE Zinnias and Lantana!).

Yep, I love that word too!

There are several blogs and .com’s out there that will give you some AWESOME deals, plus give you the links to the coupons that are available! Here a just a couple of them:

Mommy Octopus
I recently bought these 5 items:

How much do you think I paid for them? Well, retail cost (not including sale prices), with tax would have been $9.86. Here’s a breakdown for ya:

Cutter bug candle: $5.09 normally, but on sale for $4.00
4 pkgs of Kotex: .99 each
Plus the dreaded 9% sales tax…. Would have taken care of a $10 bill right there. BUT! {drum roll please……….}

I only paid $1.72! Yep, that’s right, only $1.72.

Candle price was on sale for $4.00, plus I had (1)$2.00 off Target coupon, and (1)$1.00 Manu coupon, making the candle $1.00……… (Target will take one of their Q’s and a manufacturer Q too!)
Then I had (2) $2.00 off 2 Kotex brand pantyliners. They are .99 each, so actually made .04 on the 4 of them ;) I still had to pay tax on the total amount before all of the Q’s, but not too shabby!

I wish I still had the links for the Q’s that I printed, but I know 3 of them expired on the 14th. I’ve done pretty well on other shopping trips too, just didn’t take a picture of my haul. What’s the best you’ve ever done?

Thanks so much for stopping by! I love that you took the time to do so.

This is another one of my little projects that I can check off my list ;) I bought these cute little tins from the Dollar Tree a couple of weeks ago.......I thought they'd be super cute with 4th of July action words!

I bartered with a friend and had her put the sayings on these with her Cricut (MAN-OH-MAN, I've GOT to get a Silhouette for Christmas this year....I'd have WAAAAYYYYYY to much fun! LOL!) I thought the kids would get a kick out of doing a couple of little fireworks this year. The "tame" ones {if there is such a thing} like sparklers and a couple others {I wonder if they still have those ones that expand like black snakes, can't remember what they're called}. I'll be putting them in these little tins closer to the 4th. Part of my tablescape this year! Not too shabby for only $3.00!

So, while looking through my limited amount of holiday decorations the other day, I realized that I needed to come up with another door hanger! Of course, the frugal part in me wouldn’t allow myself to go out and purchase one, I had to make one from the supplies that I already had at home……so a challenge ensued!

I loved the burlap door hanger that I made for Easter, but alas, I didn’t have any more burlap….. crap! Hmmmmm, what else did I have that I could use? No wooden boards or wreath silhouettes, double crap!! No dollar store pool noodles to make into a wreath….triple, well you know, CRAP!

Ok, so what I had was some white canvas that I used to make some placemats for my citrus table scape (a tute is still coming on that!). I had some paint that my awesome daughter got at a yard sale for $1.00 (for like a HUGE Nike shoe box full!). Ok, red, {yep}, blue {check}, white {check, check}. A piece of wire to hang the door hanger {gotcha!}. Floral tape to tape off my design {again, from my awesome daughters stash}, and a sponge to sponge on the paint, hap-hazardly, to give it that chippy, Americana-like look…..SHaaWEET! I also cut a sponge in the shape of a star too!

Easy-Peasy directions……I’ll let the pic’s speak for themselves……(oh, by-the-by, I used two 12” x 21” pieces of white canvas):

I just sewed the two pieces together with a straight stitch, left an opening for the "stuffing". As with my Burlap Easter Egg, I stuffed it with those plastic grocery bags. A great way to recycle them! No fancy-shmancy stuff here, raw edges and everthing :)

I just poked my wire through the fabric (it was a small gauge wire), then curly-qued it in the back to make sure it stayed on.

I love the way it turned out. A super easy, and pretty quick, craft project that can be done in less than one day. It was really, really humid and stinkin’ hot while I painted it…..had my fan BLARING on me, so the paint dried pretty quickly too! The joy of this project is, I’ll be able to keep my flag on my door for Memorial Day all the way through the 4th of July! YEA!

I’m working on another table and PIANO scape project as well. Will post pictures of those when they are done. As always, thanks so much for stopping by! I love your comments…….have a very BLESSED MEMORIAL DAY and GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Memorial Day.

A day to remember all of those who have gone before and who have not yet gone, to fight for our Country! My husband and I are both Military Brats, so we knew military life for all of our child/teen years.

My heart goes out to all of those military families that are now dealing with loved ones {Moms, Dads, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters} that are overseas fighting for us, to keep us all FREE! God Bless You All! My heart and prayers are with you, that your loved ones will be home, safe, very soon! Please know that my family and I are so very thankful for your sacrifices!

Let's remember the true reason why we celebrate Memorial Day.

Here's a subway art printable for you! Print, display and enjoy!
